Transitioning between formula
Can I transition my baby from another formula to mumamoo?
Yes you most certainly can.
Before switching formula though, we suggest contacting your GP or Health Care professional for advice. Every baby is unique and it’s important to ensure that specific nutritional needs are met, particularly if your baby has low birth weight or is premature. Your Health care professional can work with you to advise if your new formula preference is suitable for your baby’s needs.
All formulas vary in taste so it can take time to comfortably transition to a new brand. A slow and gradual change between formula is recommended to help your baby adjust to the new taste and smell and avoid refusal or change to feeding routine.
Your baby’s tummy is sensitive so a gentle transition will assist the digestive system as they adapt to the new formula. It’s common for babies to experience changes in stool appearance after introducing a new formula. These may include change in colour, smell and consistency, of yes you guessed it, poo 💩
Keep an eye on your baby for any new symptoms and changes. Note any changes in poo, spitting up, comfort, how much they are eating or anything else you notice. Call your GP or healthcare professional if there is a change you are worried about, and keep your notes handy as a paper record.
Suggestions on a gentle transition to a new formula:
Please note: the transition can take 7 days or longer before exclusively fed with the new brand.
- Introduce one bottle of new formula per day. Morning feeds are recommended to give your baby time to digest the new formula throughout the day. Continue this for a few days then slowly increase the volume of feeds using the new formula per day.
- For a more gradual transition you may choose to introduce ½ bottle of the new formula per day, then increase to a full bottle per feed over subsequent days. If you choose to introduce ½ bottle ensure you feed your baby the remaining ½ bottle with your existing formula for that feed. Do not mix different formula brands to make 1 bottle.
